World Health Organization

Agenda: Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR), with a focus on establishing international frameworks for regulating antibiotic use and enhancing global cooperation on innovation in medical research and development.

The World Health Organization (WHO) committee invites junior delegates from Grades 6 to 8 to tackle one of the most urgent public health threats of our time: antimicrobial resistance (AMR). As bacteria and viruses grow increasingly resistant to commonly used medicines, life-saving treatments are becoming less effective, turning once-curable infections into deadly global threats. This beginner-level committee will explore the causes behind AMR, including the overuse of antibiotics in humans and animals, and the lack of new drugs in development. Delegates will collaborate to propose international frameworks for responsible antibiotic use and improved healthcare practices, while also considering how countries can work together to support innovation in medical research. With real-world stakes as high as future pandemics, this session challenges young minds to think big, act ethically, and protect global health for generations to come.
